Evivormentally Safe Birds
Keeping evironmentally safe low growning evergreen trees near our yard not only brings the birds but gives them shelter during the hot summer months and a place for them to nest to raise their young. Humming birds by the hundreds when we hung our feeder out. We only had one hummer. The next day we had three by the end of the day there were so many I had to start filling the feeder twice a day. We decided to hang another one out, within a week we had over 50 that I could count. They came so fast and so many and are territorial when it comes to their feeders. You can hear them coming their little wings move so fast it sounds like a small fan running. You can see them chase each other high in the sky and dive bomb if someone tries to take a drink from the feeder that they are claiming. I enjoyed watching them for hours and taking pictures. Within one month I still had to fill the feeder every morning and again around six in the evening. When they run out of syrup they come and hover by the window until you refill the feeder or if you go outside they will come and fly around your head letting you know it is time to refill. They are a friendly sort I had my porch swing chair 3 ft at eye level from the feeder and would sit and watch them. Just to see what would happen I would let one go empty sometimes and they would come right up to my face and yell at me. There were times when I could not hardly pour the syrup in fast enough they would sit on the funnel and drink while I was filling the feeder. Have you ever held a humming bird in your hand or had it sit on your finger? One flew into the house one day when I left the door open for a minute. However, it could not find his way out so he just sat on the curtain and let me pick him up. When I did, I had to look twice to make sure I had it. It was like holding a feather in my hand, he did not weigh enough for me to feel him. It sat there quietly resting while he let me pet him. As I opened the door and held out my hand he flew away and came right back and chirped it was as if he was saying thank you for the help. They are the most entertaining birds in our garden next to the house finches and wild canaries. We love and enjoyed all the other varieties of birds as well. Once they get use to you, they get tame. Birds have a calming effect on most people and are an environmentally safe way to rid your yard and garden of many unwanted insects without using poisons.
